Bring light to homeless and vulnerable families in north London this Christmas by donating toys, books, festive food and daily essentials. The gift of reading is particularly important to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, who are less likely to read well, to access libraries or to have books at home. With child poverty and family homelessness high across areas like Northumberland Park, Tottenham Hale and White Hart Lane, the book you donate may even be a child's first.

Real hunger is also a harsh reality facing many families, and things that we see as essential, like toothpaste, may be seen as luxuries. The effect of poverty here is similar to that seen by the beneficiaries of our projects overseas- uncertainty, inability to plan for a better future, nowhere for children to study and a lack of resources for parents to understand how to provide opportunities for their children or where they can find them.

We work with two great community organisations to make a difference to these families and their children: CARIS Haringey, which focuses on working with homeless families, and Park Lane Children's Centre, located in Northumberland Park. Join us to provide them with educational, exciting and useful parcels this Christmas.

How to help

Email us to find out about putting a box in your office, apartment block, school or university.

If you would like to give items individually, you can drop them off at our office near Old Street (directions here) before Wednesday 14th December.

What we need:

  • new toys and books
  • clothes for babies, children and adults
  • non-perishable food (e.g. rice, pasta, cans of food, festive treats)
  • toiletries (shampoo/ toothpaste/ soap/ toilet paper/ toothbrushes)
  • baby supplies (especially nappies)

After last year's efforts, Marlene D’Aguilar, director of Park Lane, said: “The Wonder Foundation did a great job last year bringing 50 parcels for families who were in need. You ought to have seen the children’s faces when they got their gifts, and the families when they got the packages. We really want to see smiles on these families’ faces again this Christmas.”

We will also need volunteers to collect, pack and deliver parcels in the week before Christmas. Email us to get involved.
