Being at the helm of a major fashion brand must be quite exciting! What is your favourite thing about your job?
Carol: No one day is the same at boohoo!
At Wonder Foundation, our projects aim to raise the self-efficacy and aspirations of young women and to create positive role models and support networks around them. Who, or what, inspired you to get into business? Did you have a career/business mentor?
Carol: I came into e-commerce in its infancy, so the honest answer is that there wasn’t anyone for me to learn from. I suppose we were trailblazers of our time, but I really wish I could have had a mentor to help guide me along the path that lay in front of us when we started out 11 years ago. It wasn’t always easy.
Of course, I do however have an amazing network of people around me, made up of both men and women. Some of my team have worked with me for over 20 years and that loyalty and support has been unfaltering.
"We have inspired each other to keep going, keep believing and keep pushing forward."
When you’re not living and breathing Boohoo, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time? How do you balance your personal life with having a successful career?
Carol: I don’t really believe in work life balance. I think when you running at 24-hour e-commerce business you need to be available when the business needs you. Since I’ve accepted that fact, I’ve felt more at peace with the idea. I do make time to work out every day and when the weekend comes around, I love spending time in the garden.
How will you be celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th this year?
Carol: We are having celebrations across the business, which include encouraging staff members to nominate their ‘Queens of 18’, based on how that person inspires you.
A big thank you to Carol for taking the time out from her busy schedule to chat to us! As part of International Women's Day (IWD) 2018, Boohoo has partnered with Wonder to release an exclusive range of IWD tops with £5 from each product donated to Wonder, allowing us to continue empowering women and girls throughout the world through education.
